How to Think Like a Positive Person

How to Think Like a Positive Person

Have you ever met that person who seems to always be at the right place at the right time? Their attitude is always chipper and gay. They never get down. They’re those positive people who are skipping through life and Life is loving them back.

If I told you there was a trick to achieve this kind of optimistic look on life would you believe me? Well there is a trick to becoming a positive person, but it isn’t easy. You see we live in a pretty negative world. Bad news sells papers and when there isn’t bad news out there, someone is making it up. But it is possible.

This already has been a fantastic experience. Becoming a more positive person is an action and not just a way of thinking. Like most things in life we can choose to either be one thing or the other. In this case becoming a positive thinking person is a choice. I didn’t say it was going to be easy, but it is a choice we are all capable of achieving.

Here are some simple steps which will help you become that Positive Person we all know you can be. I want to share a trick. This may be the hardest part of the whole transformation, but it is illustrative of how we currently think.

  1. Stop all the Negative Talk

(Speak Words that Lift Up)

I’ve listed the title to the steps the way we normally would title them. The second Title is the way a Positive Thinking person looks at the same issue. See for yourself the difference. First look back at the Title to this article. Which one sounds more positive? It’s all about perspective and the way you say things. Your speech sets the tone for your life.

  1. Choose What You Listen To

(Listen to Things That are Positive)

There is a ole saying that goes like this, “Whatever you listen to is what will come out of your heart.” We live in a 24-hour news cycle world. There has never been so much information vying for your attention than exists today. The good thing is that there is just as much great content out there as there is bad. Find those streams of cheer daily to drowned out those soul suckers which want to drain you of your happiness and productivity. Suggestions: Cool Jazz, Easy listening music, Motivational tapes.

  1. Be Careful about What you Read

(Read Content which fills you with great information)

There are some great books out there. Some of the greatest novels, fiction and non-fiction are sitting on shelves just waiting for you to drink them in. Spend time researching the great novelist in history and consume them.

  1. Shut Off Too Much News

(Watch News on a Limited Basis.)

I must admit. As someone who must stay informed on current affairs, the news was my only form of content for many years. It changed me. I became a clinically news obsessed person. Positive people limit the amount of news they consume daily. Suggestion: Watch 30 minutes of news daily just to stay informed.

  1. Cut yourself off from Negative People

(Pick Motivated Friends)

Statistics say your income is an average of the 5 people you associate with the most. The same holds true for your attitude and thinking. Like rocks rolling around in a stream positive friends will smooth off those negative edges revealing a more positive you. Suggestions: Actively look for the most positive, fun and outgoing people you can find to become your core circle of friends.

  1. Let the Past Go Leave the Past Behind

(Keep Your Eyes on the Future)

The past has a way of repeating itself. For black Americans the past becomes a badge we wear like a prized possession. Unfortunately, our past was horrible. We can learn much from it but we cannot let it define who we are today. We can change our future, but we must first leave the past behind and look towards the future. Suggestions: Write down who you want to be in the future. Include what it will take and how long it will take to get there. You ae well on your way to becoming that person. Now go out there and get it.

  1. Don’t Compare Yourself to Others

(Believe in Yourself)

There is only one you in this entire universe. Only you have lived your life and can influence the people you’ve encountered. That is amazing. Believe that God created you for a specific purpose for such a time as this. Suggestions: Look in the mirror. Remind yourself of all the ups and downs you’ve had in life. It may read like a mystery novel. Now consider based upon these unique set of circumstances what amazing things your life could be used for.
